  • Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does this test show?
  • It measures the speed of your Internet connection in Millions of bits per second. Bit is the most basic information unit used in computing. (1 Byte = 8 Bits)

  • How does this test work?
  • When you press the "BEGIN TEST" button a large file is downloaded from our server. This test tracks time it takes for the download to complete and computes your connection speed based on the result and the file size. Upload test is done in the similar manner.

  • Every time I run the test I get a different result. Why?
  • Even if you are not using Internet your connection is never fully idle. There is always some overhead processing done in the background. This will result in minor variances in your speed tests.

  • I get different results when I use other speed tests?
  • All speed tests work in a similar manner. Some amount of information is transferred between your computer and a testing server. When you are using other speed tests the testng server is located outside of Novus' network. The data now has to travel across various networks and multiple servers. This will significantly affect the result.
